Cornbelt Fire Protection District
Cornbelt Fire Protection District, in need of more space for vehicle and equipment storage, contracted with Reifsteck Wakefield Fanning to design a new apparatus building. The new building includes seven apparatus bays, each 15’ wide by 78’ deep. The building also includes new showers and a tool room. The building will allow future expansion.
The new apparatus building compliments existing facilities on the site. Its location on the site will allow for fire response onto Franklin Street, whereas existing conditions only allow response via Main Street.
The new Apparatus Building is designed with a similar palate of materials as the existing buildings. This includes selection of a similar brick color and use of dark bronze metal panels high on the exterior walls. While remaining compatible with existing structures on the site, a single sloped roof and panelized construction on the north (Franklin Street) façade gives the building a more contemporary appearance than the original buildings.
