Spaces | College of Veterinary Medicine Linear Accelerator

The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois will now be at the forefront of cancer treatment with the addition of a linear accelerator.

Reifsteck Wakefield Fanning was engaged to design an addition to the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital. The addition updates the Hospital’s radiation therapy program through the acquisition of a Varian linear accelerator radiation therapy unit. The project is critically important to the College of Veterinary Medicine as the college strives to develop a regional tertiary cancer program that includes state of the art medical, surgical, and therapeutic radiation therapy capabilities. This program will draw patients from the tri-state area and will expose students, interns, and residents to “best practices” in cancer care management.

A concrete vault was constructed to house the linear accelerator. Support spaces include a control room, mechanical equipment room, a treatment planning area, holding and prep/recovery space, and offices for a physicist and doctors.
